Posted by Fort William Canadiens U18 'AA' on Feb 04 2024 at 06:11PM PST

Down 3-0 early in the third period, the Fort William Canadiens didn’t quit and continued to push and eventually would grab a 4-3 shootout win to defeat the Sault Ste. Marie Jr. Greyhounds in the first semifinal of the Superior Showdown.

Just five minutes into the game, the Greyhounds found the puck in a goal crease scramble and Caleb Walker netted the first goal of the game.

The two teams would go almost 23 minutes without a goal until Logan Dearing would make it 2-0, jumping on a bouncing puck on an odd-man rush.

Four minutes into the third period, the Greyhounds’ Tyler Quenneville netted a powerplay marker to extend the lead to 3-0.

A minute later, Mason Arthur scored his fifth of the season on a powerplay to close the gap to 3-1.

With 80 seconds left in the game, Luca Jedruch fired home his 16th of the season to shrink the lead to a single goal.

As the final moments of the game were nearing, Joseph Joubert took the puck the length of the ice and Neelix Otway would jump on a loose puck and bury his 11th of the year to tie the game with 33 seconds left in the third period.

After five minutes of three-on-three action in which the Canadiens had the majority of the scoring opportunities, the game would head to a shootout.

The Greyhounds would score the on their second shootout opportunity but Neelix Otway would even the score on the next shot. After five shooters, the shootout was tied at 1-1 and headed to sudden death. Mason Arthur would score for the Canadiens in the sixth round and Nicolas Pavletic sealed the deal with a save on the Greyhounds final opportunity.
