Fort William Canadiens U18 'AA'

With a pair of losses on Saturday, the Fort William Canadiens were eliminated from the Thunder Bay Elks Santa Claus Showdown.

The Canadiens had a slow start on Saturday morning versus the Fort William Hurricanes, giving up two goals in the first 2:40 of the game and eventually falling behind 4-0 by the end of the first period.

After a pair of Hurricanes’ goals in the second period and an early third period goal, the Hurricanes would pick up a 7-0 victory.

Just two hours from the conclusion of that game, the Canadiens and Marathon Northern Selects met in an elimination game and the Northern Selects would double up on the Canadiens 4-2.

Andrew Bragnalo opened the scoring, taking the rebound off the back boards from an Owen Renn shot and netting his third of the season.

The Selects would respond with three goals just 2:11 apart in the middle of the first period, grabbing a 3-1 lead.

After a scoreless second period, the Canadiens’ Neelix Otway snapped home his fifth goal of the year to close the gap to 3-2. The Selects would score a couple minutes later to end the scoring.

Notes: The Canadiens were 0-8 on the powerplay on the day, while the penalty killing was 2-2; Luca Jedruch and Tallon Thornsteinson missed both games while Joseph Joubert was out of the lineup for the early game; Affiliate player Ali Hassan Alam played both games; The games concluded an eleven games in eleven days for the Canadiens; The Canadiens lost in the finals of this event in 2022 and won the previous version of the tournament in 2019; The Canadiens meet the Current River Comets on Wednesday.
