Fort William Canadiens U18 'AA'

The Fort William Canadiens played two games on the Saturday of the Silver Stick tournament, finishing the round robin with a 5-1 loss to the Greater Toronto Capitals and then falling to the Sault Ste. Marie Jr. Hounds 2-1 in the quarterfinals.

The opening game was a near perfect start for the Canadiens, as Nathan Caputo blocked a shot and Luca Jedruch outraced the Capitals’ defenders for a breakaway, where he slipped his 12th goal of the year around the Capitals’ netminder.

It would be all Toronto after that, as they would score twice in the first period, add a goal in the middle frame and then finish the game with a pair of goals in the third.

The Canadiens were 0-3 on the powerplay in the game while the Capitals were 1-3.

After a last minute change to the schedule, the Canadiens and Jr. Hounds had two hours to re-arrange plans, etc. and get ready to play in the quarterfinal.

The Jr. Hounds scored a goal in the first shift of the game and would hold that lead until midway through the second period when Mason Arthur evened the score with his second goal of the season.

Just over four minutes into the third period, the Jr. Hounds would take the lead for good.

The Canadiens finished the game 0-3 on the powerplay while the Jr. Hounds were 0-1.

Notes: The Canadiens were without Andrew Bragnalo for both games; The semifinals will have the Halton Hills Thunder square off with the Orangeville Flyers while the Canadiens’ two opponents from Saturday, the Greater Toronto Capitals and Sault Ste. Marie Jr. Hounds, meet in the other semifinal; 57 teams were competing across eight divisions this weekend in Sudbury.
