November starts with a loss
A slow start and a couple short spans where the Current River Comets scored in bunches proved to be too much for the Fort William Canadiens on Wednesday evening, as the Comets picked up a 5-2 win.
The lone goal of the first period was scored less than two minutes into the game, with Carson Height potting the opening goal.
The Canadiens scored their two goals in a 2:13 span to open the second period. Owen Renn netted his third of the season, converting a Nathan Caputo pass and then Luca Jedruch slid home his fourth of the season off a rebound from a Joseph Joubert shot.
In the final third of the middle period, the Comets’ Liam Duclos scored a powerplay goal followed by a Connor Brindley goal.
Early in the third period, the Comets’ Height and Sam Williamson scored 35 seconds apart to end the scoring.
Notes: The Canadiens were 0-2 on the powerplay, both opportunities in the third period; The Comets scored on their lone powerplay chance; In the late game, the West End Bruins blanked the Fort William Hurricanes 3-0; The Canadiens play the Hurricanes and Bruins next week.
