Canadiens defeat Hawks 4-3

Posted by Lincoln Galbraith on Nov 28 2004 at 04:00PM PST in 2018-2019
The Canadiens ended their two game losing streak by defeating the Neebing Hawks 4-3 last night.  This was the first time ever the Canadiens have defeated the Neebing juvenile hockey team, which is in it's third season.

The first period was scoreless until Justin Backor beat Tyler Fortin with a shot with just 10 seconds remaining in the period.

The Canadiens played a solid second period and added to the lead with two goals midway through the period.  First, Brendan Willis' point shot was deflected by a Hawk player and beat Fortin.  The Canadiens then took advantage of a powerplay when Terry Zaroski took a Backor pass in front of the net and scored his ninth goal of the season.  Zaroski has now scored in all eight games he has played this season.

The third period began with Sean Spenrath scoring his second of the season on a partial breakaway after he received a little chip pass from Zaroski.  The Neebing Hawks responded with a goal a couple of minutes later when Nick Burrell scored.  The Canadiens then killed three consecutive penalties before Burrell and Mark Dysievick scored in the last minute.

Drew Strandberg was solid in the net for the Canadiens, earning the win.  Kevin Connolly and Chris Kovac both had two assists, while Backor added an assist to his goal for two points.

The Canadiens were 1-7 on the powerplay while the Hawks were 0-6.

Notes: Brandon Hyatt (injury) and Jerry Franzese (out of town) both missed the game; Brad McIllwain, a member of the Canadiens Midget 'A' team made his debut as an affiliate last night; Norwest and Current River tied 1-1 in the game following the Canadiens-Hawks game; The two juvenile teams are now a combined 4-8-2.  Last season they were a combined 25-22-6 and the previous season saw the one juvenile team go 15-8-2.
