Kings shutout Canadiens

Posted by Lincoln Galbraith on Dec 01 2004 at 04:00PM PST in 2018-2019
For the first time this season, the Canadiens were shutout.  The Sportop Bantam Kings dropped the Canadiens 3-0.

The Kings jumped out to an early lead when Mitchell Forbes scored a powerplay marker just 0:58 seconds into the game.  Both teams traded opportunities and control of the game for the remainder of the period and into the second period.

Michael Gibbs made the score 2-0 in the second period when he received a pass at the side of the net after the Kings caught the Canadiens scrambling in the defensive zone.  Sean Spenrath was denied on a 2-1 by a lunging pad save by Ryan Faragher.

The third period continued the trend of end to end action.  Terry Zaroski's eight game scoring streak was almost extended when he hit the crossbar.  The Canadiens, knowing that the complete game would not be played due to time restrictions, were forced to play more aggressively offensively and it almost paid off a couple of times.  The Kings took advantage of the aggressiveness by converting a three on two break.

Cody Junttola took the loss but was solid in the net for the Canadiens.

The Canadiens were 0-6 on the powerplay, including a 1:50 span while the Kings were two men short.  The Kings finished 1-3 on the powerplay.

Notes: Brendan Hyatt (arm injury) did not play again.  He has had his cast removed; The Canadiens were not shutout and had one shutout last season; Zaroski's goal scoring streak ended after nine goals (and 11 points) in eight games;  This low scoring game broke the weekly trend of high scoring Midget 'AA' games.  The Hurricanes defeated West End 9-6 and Current River defeated Volunteer Pool 8-5 on Tuesday.  The Current River-Volunteer Pool game also included three fights; The Canadiens went 2-2-2 in the month of November and were outscored 18-15.  Zaroski (8 points), Chris Kovac (6 points) and Spenrath (4 points) led the team in scoring for the month.  CosimoRacco and Zaroski led the team in plus minus for the month at +3.  Chris Kovac and Ryan Krasnichuk were +2 for the month.  The powerplay was 4-26 (15.4%) and the penalty kill was 21-25 (84.0%) for the month.
