Campbell shuts out Comets, Caddo scores twice

The Fort William Canadiens scored twice early in the game on Monday night and never looked back, defeating the Current River Comets 5-0.

Just 1:53 into the game, Drew Caddo out raced the Comets to a loose rebound off a dump in and netted the opening goal. Less than two minutes later, Michael Goegan chipped a Jaiden Varey pass to Manerplaw Winning in the neutral zone, who skated past the Comets’ defenders and scored his fourth of the year.

Late in the period, Michael Sheare took a Caddo pass in the slot and fired home his third of the young campaign.

After a scoreless second period, the Canadiens added two powerplay goals in the third period. Evan Maslack scored his second of the year and was followed up just 1:12 later by Caddo, who one timed his third of the year home to end the scoring.

Kaylan Campbell stopped every shot fired his way for the shutout.

Notes: The Canadiens finished the night 2-5 on the powerplay while the Comets were 0-3; The Canadiens were again without Parker Ball. Johnathon Gammond backed up Campbell for the third consecutive game; In the early game, the Volunteer Pool Bearcats defeated the Fort William Hurricanes; The Canadiens and the West End Bruins square off on Wednesday evening.
