Canadiens drop Bearcats in TOC opener

The Fort William Canadiens opened the Hockey Northwestern Ontario Tournament of Champions event with a 4-1 win over the Volunteer Pool Bearcats on Thursday evening.  

Late in the first period, Jordan Van Elburg found Aiden Morancy with a strech pass and Morancy scored his ninth of the season. 

After a scoreless second period, Brody Bohonos was the beneficiary of the Canadiens forcing a turnover with Bohonos netting his 14th of the campaign.  Midway through the period, the Canadiens extended the lead to three goals with Justin Nadon converting a Chase House set-up for his team-leading 20th of the year.  After the Bearcats Michael Goegan scored, Noah Francis would end the scoring with an empty net goal for his 14th. 

Zach Prenger grabbed his eighth win of the year in net. 

Notes: The Canadiens and Bearcats were both 0-1 on the powerplay; The Canadiens inserted Ryan Doucette into the lineup to replace Michael Moga; The Canadiens are now 3-3-3 versus the Bearcats this season; In the other Midget AA action, the Thunder Bay Bantam AAA Kings edged the West End Bruins 2-1; The Canadiens and Kings square off on Friday evening.
